Hi
So I'm a rather fussy person on a budget who isn't thrilled by church-audio or most of the SoundProfessionals line of mics. They lack highs and sound kinda muddy, particularly anything using those panasonic capsules.
I'd like a very portable binaural recording solution for under us$100, that is, two omni-directional microphones, that will plug directly to iriver/MD's mic jack, or go through line battery box if it *must*.
Anybody got any suggestions?
Cheers
Sam
Audiotechnica makes good ones, but they're not in your declared price range. You might check them out, anyway.
check out the mxl marshall electronics mics but again, it'll be over your budget. If you want good quality, you'll have to go above less than one hundred for everything. The cad mics are okay... Even two sm57s will run you over 100. Might as well save up more so you can get good quality mics, and get a matched pair if possible. Or, look into a stereo mic perhaps. But, two condensers on booms will yield better results, it's more versitile than the stereo mic which has both capsuls in a fixed position.
guitargod1, could you elaborate on this? and how fiddly any of your aforementioned setups would be to connect to standard 3.5mm jack? disregarding price range for a moment that is.
cheers
Make sure the mic jack isn't a mono jack first off.
yeh it certainly isn't *grin*
I really like my sound pros. the only problem is I need a base roll off in the worst way.
okay, in that case, you'd need a 3.5mm stereo cable to left and right xlr I'm assuming. and you can get a pair of MXL marshall electronics large diafram condenser mics from musicians friend for $159. I'll post the link in a little bit when I dig it up.

Look out, Sam. Camaron'ssending you to get mics that require 48 volt fantom power, and are large, not the binaural mics you are going for.
Sound professionals does however make the SP-BMC12 set. If you don't want to go for the Church Audio mics, which frankly I think sound better, you can still give these a shot. They use Audio Technica AT350 capsules, and if you want an idea of what they sound like, fire at me.
